Set your phasers to FUN! Legendary actor George Takei, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sulu on Star Trek, beams to Riverdale tomorrow in Kevin Keller #6.

The Associated Press spoke with George Takei on his appearance in the comic who said of his guest starring roll, "I was so flattered." The actor and equal rights advocate drops by Riverdale High to surprise Kevin who wrote a paper on why Takei inspires him. The Washington Post, NY Daily News, SF Gate and many more picked up the interview which ran today.

Riverdale has welcomed other real-life celebrities in the pages of Archie, but this marks the first time a celeb has shown up in Kevin Keller. George Takei explained that the issue dovetails nicely with his real-life advocacy for equal rights because it helps bring home his message that anyone can aspire to be what they want to be no matter who they are.

This marks a turning point for the ongoing title which launched one year ago after a successful mini-series and will soon begin a new arc featuring two new love interests for Kevin, putting him smack in the middle of an Archie-style love triangle.

Meet George Takei and Kevin creator Dan Parent this Wednesday 12/5 at Midtown Comics where he'll be signing Kevin Keller #6 from 9-11pm. Click for details.
